Tropical Obsession – Cool Tea City

Project LocationOCT East Industrial Area, Shenzhen

Design Period 2006                 Category: Exhibition

In Tropical Obsession the architecture section is used to explore the direct physical relationship between the BODY and the CITY.

Inside that room, Xiao Pin and Germaine's bodies twisted around each other, their shadows flickering over the walls and ceiling. Their moaning poured through the wild noise of the city; just after such sudden Rain Dogs the air was filled with the Scent of Green Papaya.

This is a city south of the Tropic of Cancer - airless waves of heat, mugginess, humidity and desire; under the scorching sun and lasting spell of rain; spicy hot pot and greasy midnight snacks; hard / soft massages and mistress's hot soup – under the surface of a male city, sterilized by its own autistism, so muscular but impotent, every dark corner is full of energetic and lavishly wasted individual lives and delirious vibration of 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

The glowing desire is filling all of this physical presence: exploring and waiting to be explored. The body starts drifting through the city of hustle and bustle and the nature in periphery, seeking for places to release such excessive energy and desire. She found him.

In Tropical Obsession the architecture section is used to explore the direct physical relationship between the BODY and the CITY - wandering inside, outside, to the top and down of spaces through the body in motion - from single use to the exchanged or mixed; emptiness or waste to congestion; ultimate penetration against autistism … the city completes the cycle of self regeneration and rebirth.

From now on, is there anything he or she can do in such a tropical city that is not in awareness of your own body?

“Come on, let’s have a cool tea!”
