What else can an urban waterway offer beyond flood control and disaster prevention? Building on improved flood conveyance, the Shenzhen Middle School (Nigang Campus) river renewal integrates ecological restoration, public activities, and spatial experiences, transforming an overlooked waterfront into an open space connecting nature and campus.As a pilot project of the Bijia Mountain River Daylighting and Along-the-Route Renewal Project, it explores the public value of engineered waterways, balancing engineering safety, ecological sustainability, and public accessibility. Beyond landscape enhancement, the project demonstrates how hidden urban infrastructure can become part of the ecological environment, cultural landscape, and public realm, offering a practical model for urban river daylighting.
