The renovated public restroom is located at the intersection of Shuqian Road and Miaoqian Straight Street in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, at a busy node within the Dongshankou neighborhood. Through an integrated renewal of its functions, spatial organization, and urban interface, the once hidden and disorderly restroom has been transformed into an open node within the neighborhood. While preserving the historical character of Dongshankou, the design introduces a clear spatial order. As “spatial organizers,” we not only respond to practical needs, but also consider the public and human aspects of the space in subtle ways, seeking to give this once-unassuming piece of infrastructure a renewed sense of social meaning.
