Facing Mount Xiqiao, beneath the trees along Tingyin Lake, a public seat seems to “soften” and flow across the site—from the tree pit to the steps, then toward the water. As a piece of urban furniture, it integrates practical function with the site and local culture, becoming not only a place to rest, but also a vessel for collective memories. From here, the lake and Mount Xiqiao unfold before the eyes.

Water becomes the project’s formal DNA, responding to both the Lingnan water-town landscape of Mount Xiqiao and the site’s lakeside setting. Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory introduces the dimension of “time”: its melting clocks suggest that time can be perceived and bent. The idea of “softness” comes from Xiangyunsha, a traditional intangible cultural heritage of Foshan. Rooted in the thousand-year-old mulberry-dyke fish-pond system, silk weaving forms one of the softest textures of this land. Water, time, and local textile converge to define the core of Soft Time: a state of ease.
